  • RWK-8 Pond Air Pump 2.83 cfm 4,890 in³

Aeration for 8,000 Gallon Ponds, Fish Holding Tanks
    and Hydroponic Systems

RWK-8 Pond Air Pump Our best 2.83 cfm pond air pump

RWK-8 Pond Air Pump produces 2.83 cfm (4,890 in³) of oxygen to ponds and fish holding tanks. Oxygenated water is critical for keeping fish and aquatic life alive and healthy. Aerating the water also benefits the bacteria living inside biological filters.

The RWK-8 Pond Air Pump is perfect for aerating all types of ponds, fish holding tanks, and hydroponic systems. The RWK-8 Pond Air Pump has a maximum pumping depth of five feet. This rising column of fine bubbles ensures the mixing and circulation of significant volumes of water. This mixing action enhances water quality and destratification.

How the RWK-8 Pond Air Pump Works

The RWK-8 Pond Air Pump is a precision engineered linear air pump that is specifically designed for oxygenating water. Air pumps are typically used in ponds, fish holding tanks, and hydroponic system. The RWK-8 Pond Air Pump will drive air at a rate of 2.83 cubic feet per min through an airline tube and into an air diffuser that breaks the air flow into thousands of tiny air bubbles. These air tiny air bubbles provided maximum reaction area for dissolving oxygen into the water.

Using the RWK-8 Pond Air Pump

Always position an air pump above the water line. This removes the chances of any water from back-flowing towards the air pump should the unit be accidentally switched off or in the event of a power failure. Check valves are a recommended safety precaution when the air pump cannot be installed above the water line. An alternative is to loop a section of the air tubing above the water line. This too will prevent water from back-flowing.

Although the RWK-8 Pond Air Pump is rated for outdoor use, care should be taken to make sure rainwater, groundwater, or irrigation water does not flood the air pump. The RWK-8 Pond Air Pump is not submersible.

The RWK-6 Pond Air Pump can be used with all types of air diffusers. Always use a large air diffuser, or multiple small diffusers to maximize the efficiency of the air pump. Operating an air pump with too small, or too few air diffusers will result in excessive back pressure on the air pump’s diaphragm. Excessive back pressure can cause premature failure of the diaphragm. Please don’t be alarmed, the diaphragm inside the RWK-8 Pond Air Pump can easily be replaced. Under normal operating conditions, the diaphragm can last up to 20,000 hours.

High Efficiency RWK-8 Pond Air Pump

Running on just 85 watts, this whisper-quiet aeration air pump costs virtually nothing to run, you can feel good about providing constant aeration to your pond, fish holding tank, or hydroponic system.

Aeration is extremely important. A healthy ecosystem requires a constant supply of oxygen. The RWK-8 Pond Air Pump provides 2.83 cubic feet of oxygen per minute. This increases and maintains higher levels of dissolved oxygen. Rising air bubbles from air diffusers increase water circulation.

During warmer months, warmer pond water contains less dissolved oxygen than colder water. Adding a RWK-8 Pond Air Pump with diffuser stones will help keep fish and ecosystem healthy. Higher levels of oxygen dissolved in your pond increases the metabolism rate of the beneficial bacteria living in your biological pond filter.

RWK-8 Pond Air Pump Will keep a hole open in the ice during winter months

During periods of freezing weather – the rising air bubbles will keep a hole open in the ice. The churning bubbles prevent the pond from completely freezing over. Keeping a hole open in the pond is critical for the health of your fish.

An open hole in the ice allows for potentially harmful gasses to escape the water. Keep your RWK-8 Pond Air Pump running in your pond at all times to keep the water stirred and promote the exchange of gases. An aerator is a lot more economical than a pond heater, and it will oxygenate the water while reducing ice build up.

During periods of prolonged freezing temperatures, an outdoor air pump can hyper-cool the water. This can become harmful to some pond fish. The best way to prevent hyper-cooling the water is to move the RWK-8 Pond Air Pump indoors or a shelter with just the airline and diffuser outdoors. This will allow warmer air to be pumped into the pond and eliminate the risk of hyper-cooling the water.

Advantages of a Linear Air Pump

Quiet Operation and Energy Savings. There are two primary types of air pumps for pond aeration: Linear air pumps and rotary vane air pumps. The advantages of linear air pumps is that they consume 1/2 the electrical power of rotary vane air pumps and are virtually silent. Rotary vane air pumps are primarily used when higher air pressures are needed, such as deep water or long air tubing runs. To achieve higher air pressures, rotary vane air compressors require more electrical power. Rotary vane air pumps are very loud by comparison and not the best choice for backyard ponds. For ponds, fish holding tanks, and hydroponic systems, linear air pumps are a better option.
