How to Calculate
Water Volume

 

 

 

7.48 gallons per cubic foot.
1 cubic foot = 7.48 gallons.

1' Length x 1' width x 1' depth = 1 cubic foot
Cubic feet are measurements of Volume

Rectangle
Square
Triangle
Ellipse or Oval
Circle or Cylinder
Half Circle
Quarter Circle
Circle Section (Pizza Slice)
Trapezoid

All water features can be broken down into one or more of these shape categories. Volume Calculations for each shape is listed for you below. For "odd-shaped" water features, simply break down the water feature into smaller categories that fit into the shapes listed below - then add them all together for a close approximation of volume and gallons.

For multiple, or variable depths - use an "Average Depth" measurement in the Depth calculations below.

 

Volume of a Rectangle

Length x Width x Depth = Cubic Feet.
Cubic Feet x 7.48 = Total Gallons.
