ElectroFlush™ SAVES Water!

Download LARGER ElectroFlush™ Video
Russell Water, Gardens & Koi, the recognized leader in innovative pond filtration systems, technology, and pond design concepts brings you the World's FIRST electronic low voltage backwash system for a waterfall filter - ElectroFlush™! The revolutionary ElectroFlush™ Backwash System lets you backwash your Hydro Vortex™ waterfall filter with just a "flip of a switch" - as seen in the video above.
How does ElectroFlush™ work? When you flip the ElectroFlush™ Control Switch from "Filter" to "Backwash" two things happen simultaneously. The Hydro Vortex™ Filter's bottom drain valve is opened - at the same time, the HydroFlush™ valve is switched from the "filter" position to the "HydroFlush™" position. This then causes water to not enter the Hydro Vortex™ filter's filtering inlet - instead, water is diverted to the HydroFlush™ Froth Jet at the top of the filter. The Froth Jet™ then forces the water in a skyward direction. The water then mixes with oxygen as it falls back on to and into the Hydro Vortex™ filter. Because the filter's bottom drain valve is open - the water falling back onto and into the top of the filter rinses the filter's media - Hydro FilterSilk™. Debris that has settled out of the water and from the Hydro Vortex™ filter's Vortex Chamber into the Settling Cone, - along with particulates and detritus captured by the Hydro FilterSilk™ are flushed downward and out the drain. The ElectroFlush™ System uses your existing pump and pond water to quickly, and efficiently rinse your Hydro Vortex™ filter without harming or disturbing the biofilm. ElectroFlush™ - the World's FIRST Low Voltage Electronic Backwash System for the World's FIRST backwashable waterfall filter - Hydro Vortex™
Here's how easy it is:
First, this photo on the left shows an Ahi Hydro Vortex™ easy to clean waterfall filter creating beautiful waterfalls as it filters this Hybrid Pond™.
To backwash this Hydro Vortex™ filter, locate the ElectroFlush™ Control Box installed near the power source that the waterfall pump is plugged into.
Open the weather resistant door on the left side of the ElectroFlush™ Control Box to expose the ElectroFlush™ switch. (The "protruding" area on the right side of the Control Box contains the heavy duty 24 volt transformer and fuse)
Simply flip the ElectroFlush™ switch fully downward to the "Backwash" position.
The ElectroFlush™ Switch is a 3-way switch: Up is the "Filter" position, down is the "Backwash" position, and the middle position is "Off".
Within seconds you'll start to see water coming up and out of the HydroFlush™ Froth Jet at the top of the Hydro Vortex™ filter. In 30 seconds, the ElectroFlush's™ drain valve is fully open and the diverter valve is in the "Backwash" position.
You'll see water shooting skyward out of the HydroFlush™ Froth Jet where it mixes with oxygen and splashes back onto, and into the Hydro Vortex™ waterfall filter. This highly oxygenated water rinses the Hydro FilterSilk™ media with high volume - LOW PRESSURE pond water. The result is a gentle rinsing of the media with highly oxygenated pond water that does not harm the biofilm.
Flip the ElectroFlush™ switch back to "Filter" when the Hydro Vortex™ filter is clean. The Hydro Vortex™ waterfall filter is clean when the water exiting the drain line runs clear - or, if you can't see the water exiting your drain line - about 60 seconds backwashing time per day is all you need. Or about 7 minutes per week.
The Hydro Vortex™ waterfall filter is designed to remove heavy particulate matter with its vortex chamber and cause them to settle into the filter's settling cone at the bottom of the filter. The filter's media, Hydro FilterSilk™ is designed to trap the light weight debris from the water to give it the "polished water" look it is so famous for. Biofilm growing on the Hydro FilterSilk™ micro-strains the water free of ammonia and organics.
Routine backwashing of the Hydro Vortex™ filter removes the debris from the settling cone, removes trapped debris from the Hydro FilterSilk™ media, and removes the bacterial waste called "detritus". A clean biofilter performs at the peak of efficiency and keeps the biofilm healthy. The ElectroFlush™ System accomplishes all this in just 30 seconds per day, or 3 minutes per week!
The ElectroFlush™ System uses the same 3-Way Diverter Valve as the manual HydroFlush™ System. The difference is the 24 Volt Motorized Actuator on top of the valve in place of the handle. HydroFlush™ Systems can be upgraded to ElectroFlush™ Systems simply by attaching the Actuator to the existing valve.
The 3-Way Motorized ElectroFlush™ Valve sits down in a valve box and out of view. The low voltage wire then runs along side the water pipe towards the ElectroFlush™ Control Box mounted 18" above ground near the waterfall pumps power source.
When the valve cover is placed on the valve box, the ElectroFlush™ 3-Way Valve is completely hidden from view.
The ElectroFlush™ Drain Valve operates similar to the 3-Way valve except the valve doesn't "divert" water - the valve is open or closed. The Drain Valve is a 2-Way Valve with a 24 Volt Motorized Actuator on top instead of a handle or lever.
The 2-Way Drain Valve in the ElectroFlush™ System also has a "Drain Switch". The Drain Switch allows you to open the Drain Valve independently of the 3-Way Backflushing Valve. This is useful for performing water changes.
Also, its a good idea to open the Drain Line of the Hydro Vortex™ filter whenever you clean your HydroClean™ Pond Skimmer. When cleaning the HydroClean™ Pond Skimmer, dirty water falls off of the filter brushes when they're lifted out. Having the Drain Valve of the Hydro Vortex™ waterfall filter open lets the pump push the dirty water out of the system instead of sending it to the filter.
Like the ElectroFlush™ Switch in the Master Control Box, the Drain Switch on the 2-Way Valve Motor Housing is a 3-Way switch. One side of the switch is "Closed", the other is "Open", and the middle is "Off".
Use this handy feature every time you clean your HydroClean™ Pond Skimmer - or simply when you want to remove water from the system.
Just like the 3-Way ElectroFlush™ Valve, the Drain Valve sits down in the valve box.
When the valve cover is installed on the Drain Valve's valve box - the Drain Valve is completely hidden from view.
To use the Drain Valve's Drain Switch - simply open the valve cover, reach under the motor housing and "flip" the switch! Its super easy!
The ElectroFlush™ System can be used on water garden ponds, Hybrid Ponds™, Crossover Ponds™, and pondless waterfall installations featuring Hydro Vortex™ backwashable waterfall filters.
